Presentation Reflection

1. The interview with Dr. Fernandes influenced my presentation in a great manner. He emphasized a lot on the concept that good architecture simply occupies space while great architecture celebrates space. This really grabbed my attention when I first heard it because it gave me a new perspective when I look at architecture.

2. What stood out in my performance is that the way I reacted when my professor brought up the difference in good and great architecture was the same way my classmates reacted when I brought the concept up to them. They were a little confused because they did not see what I meant until I explained it to them vocally and visually and finally I heard "Oh!" Which made me know that I accomplished my objective of having my classmates see architecture in a new way.

3. The most challenging thing to do in this presentation was calming my nerves and setting my mind into presenting. This was hard because I had no true type of presentation for months but luckily forgetting what I was going to say never crossed my mind. In order to have a great presentation you as an individual have to be on a roll that keeps the information coming out of your mouth flawlessly. It was hard and it took me a while to find that spark but after taking a deep breath I settled down and just talked about architecture like it was second nature.

Senior Project Presentation 1

The objective of my first presentation is to introduce my classmates to architecture so they can capture a better picture of what it really is and help them better recognize the art that is all around them.
  • I will start my presentation by defining architecture and asking the class about any piece of architecture they could think of.
  • I believe most people will talk about random building, even the Cal Poly Admissions Building. With this I will go on to say that the portable they are in is an actual piece of architecture.
  • I predict most people will look down at this type of architecture and I will not neglect their idea of doing so but embrace it because of the idea that good architecture just occupies space and great architecture embraces it. I will emphasize this concept.
  • To check for understanding I will bring up a couple of buildings and ask a student why a building of my choosing celebrates space and why the other building of my choosing just fills in space.
  • Once they answer I will explain why it is important.
  • My visual will be a folder with comparison's in all types of art from like maybe a hybrid car to a Ferrari, a cubical and an Donald Trumps office and so on.
  • I believe this visual will really help the students better understand what I'm trying to get into their heads and will be a great way to finish of my presentation.
  • Lastly I will say "Are there any questions?" and "Never forget that good architecture _ _ _ _ _? And great architecture _ _ _ _ _? That's right!"

Interview Check!

I plan on interviewing Dr. Fernandes who is a licensed architect and also my professor at Citrus College. He has all the credentials you can ask for in an architect and is capable of providing me with the best answer and lead me into the proper path as a mentor. I will plan on asking him the basics about architecture first so I can get an idea of how it is going to be for me in the upcoming years and also see what I should start doing to get me ahead of the competition.

Digital Profile

Topic: Architectural Design

Q: Why Architectural design?
A: Being an Architect implies a lot of patience and creativity and I posses both those traits and plus I do not mind picking up a pencil and designing a building from scratch and seeing it a few years later actually built.

Q: What will I accomplish?
A: Taking classes the whole year and interacting with actual architects is going to keep me a step ahead of the competition when I continue to pursue my degree in college. The work that I do now will be a great reference for a paper or a project later on in college. This year will also help me gain much needed connections and I have proof that it will as my professor in "Intro to Architecture" at Citrus College is one who hires his best students. The extensive research and internship with an entrepreneur may prove to my professor that I'm eventually going to be the right one to work for his company.
